Japanese Investors Considers Cambodia as a Potential Location for Creating Network in Southeast Asia



Mr. Soichi Yoshimura, Executive Vice president of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), has affirmed Japanese investors wish to create network and new location in the Southeast Asia Region and Cambodia is the potential location. On 5 September, Mr. Soichi Yoshimura led a group of 47 Japanese investors to visit Cambodia with the aims at learning Cambodia’s business environment and seeking business opportunities. In the meeting, the Cambodian senior minister Cham Prasidh expressed warm welcome to the delegation and requested the delegation to bring more investors to visit Cambodia. He added Cambodia has enjoyed the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) from the European Union, the U.S., China, the Republic of Korea as well as Japan and over 98 percent of Cambodian goods are exempted from import duties and quotas, he said. In the first semester of 2012, Cambodia has attracted 72 investment projects worth up to US$692 million from China, Thailand, the U.S., Canada, Vietnam, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Samoa.
