Cambodia and Malaysia Discuss
MoU on Use of Manpower
On
04 October, there was a discussion about MoU on the use of manpower between
Cambodia and Malaysia with presences of 70 representatives from Cambodian government,
Malaysian Embassy, non-governmental organizations, civil societies, worker
unions and recruitment agencies. Mr. Seng Sakada, Labor Director General,
highlighted that the consultative workshop on MoU regarding the using of manpower
between Cambodia and Malaysia is considered to be the most important mechanism
for managing Cambodian workers who are now working as well as intending to work
abroad. He further added, as of August 2012, there were 12,976 laborers (4,846
female) working overseas, of which 6,575 workers (1,035 female) were found in
Korea, followed by 116 workers (42 female) in Malaysia and 50 (1 female) in
Japan. Cambodian government has temporarily banned its citizens from working in
Malaysia as maids due to brutal conditions, said Mr. Chuob Narat, Deputy
Director of Employment and Manpower. (Kampuchea Thmey, October 05, 2012.)
